A 54-Minute Discussion About How Comedians Should Approach Their Career

March 16, 2011

Jordan Cooper, a Louisville-based comedian and the mastermind behind the Not A Pro Blog, recently asked if he could interview me for his website and I was happy to do so. Our interview wound up turning into a lengthy conversation that covered a ton of topics that I think will really interest my readers so I wanted to share it with you on this site.

You can click here to download the full length audio recording of the interview, or if it’s easier for you, I’ve uploaded the entire interview on to my new YouTube channel (please go subscribe to it!) and you can “watch” the interview spread out across the six YouTube videos posted below.

I’m really pleased with how the interview turned out and would love to hear any thoughts you have about what we discussed. Please leave them in the comments.

Good stuff—but this is REALLY REALLY difficult on a lot of people. Can you just combine everything into ONE mp3?

Made it all the way through, some really great stuff. Will probably have to go back through and take some notes though. Lots of great tips in there!

It was very refreshing to hear what I’ve been saying to deaf ears. Managing your comedy career is key, and the tools are available…. and not expensive to implement. The new model of promoting yourself as a comic is the new rule. Comics need to take a minute to plan and dedicate a certain amount of time each day to social networking. A little investment of ‘time’ will help you get to the next level. Great interview with two wonderful resources.

This was awsome ! , the key is that there will never be the perfect time to do a blog, podcast, or read and reply to tweets and posts on facebook. Start where you are, small daily goals, read and reply to 10 tweets, 10 posts on facebook. At the end of a month you have over 300, with probably many bouncebacks. Thanks for these audios, it has been really inspirational. I’m off to kickstart my marketing plan right now.
