Hey CJ, there's no real single answer to that question because everybody has a different way of doing it, but here's a few broad suggestions.

First, in order to go on the road you need to lineup gigs. There's lots of ways to do this, but the most common is by getting booked through a booking agent, club booker, or show promoters in different markets.

If you can't get any of those people to book you gigs, then you can also try to create your own gigs in which case you'll have to reach out to venues in the cities you want to perform, convince them to let you put on a show there, and then figure out how to promote your show in order to ensure that people show up.

I have no idea how long you've been doing comedy or not, but my recommendation would be that you probably shouldn't worry about working on the road until you've at least been doing it for long enough to feel comfortable that you know what you're doing.

Also, you can talk to other local comedians in your area who may go on the road and get info from them about where they go, what venues they perform at, how they get booked, etc. You can really learn a lot from talking to other local "road comics" in your area.
